I am in anthropology and I read that like 15000 years ago domestic breeds came from wolves at one point in time. This is not new info for me btw…My q is how did the breeders select for traits in the wolves that would produce a golden retriever or a poodle etc??Wouldn’t crossing wolves just make another wolf?
Unless the wolves were drastically different in phenotype but all the wolves I’ve ever seen have been very similar in phenotype.
